My Dexy Girl turns - oh my gosh HOLD ME - six years old tomorrow & I still have no idea what to get her. Her dad & I are taking her down to the Pt. Defiance Zoo and Aquarium this weekend (per her request, which is cool b/c we absolutely adore that zoo), but do any of you mamas and daddy-o’s any other suggestions? She’s very girlie. Loves stuffed animals. Loves to color/draw. Loves books. Is not sports/athletically inclined whatsoever. Oh, and she loves cake.
Then again, what little kid doesn’t?

Her first “week” of Kindergarten went swimmingly. Just in case you were wondering.
I’m lucky. My kid REALLY likes school. Always has. She woke up early each day this week, asking the same question, “Do I have Kindergarten today mama?” to which I replied, “Yes, you sure do” and she would always answer, “Yaaaaaay!”.
She likes having breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria with her new friends. She likes playing on the playground. She likes the songs they’re learning. She likes her classroom and her teacher. She likes learning her numbers. Really, I know it’s only been three days, but I think she’s got this. I can EXHALE now.
The only “problem” is that apparently she thinks she can get up and wander around the classroom whenever she feels like it. And as you and I all know, that just ain’t gonna fly in the Real World. Elementary school is really just the beginning of this indoctrination, isn’t it? Where we first have to raise our hands and ask permission to do, well, EVERYTHING.
So… we have to remind her that she’s not in her free-spirited European style preschool anymore. Here she has to keep her clothes and shoes on. She has to ASK to use the restroom. And most of all, she has to sit still and do what she’s told. Not that she didn’t have to follow directions in preschool, I just get the impression she’s not really good at following directions. Then again, she is MY kid. And goodness knows, I was never very good at following directions in school either. Loved school. Loved learning. HATED rules and following directions. Still do. Go figure.
Anyhoo… we’re off to a great start. And that makes this mama very, very happy.
